Biografie Change of Key
In 2001 ontmoeten de drie leden van Change of Key elkaar tijdens een benefiet concert. De muzikale klik is er direct en binnen no-time is er sprake van een vaste samenwerking. In de eerste jaren die volgen wordt er hard gespijkerd aan het repertoire en ook aan de instrumentale invulling, wordt veel aandacht besteed.
SAMENSTELLING EN MUZIEKSTIJL
Daniëlle neemt, naast haar geweldige zangkunst, ook de slaggitaar-, mandoline-, en banjolele partijen voor haar rekening. Marijke, harmoniezangeres bij uitstek, legt zich toe op toetsen en gitaar en Joop is de muzikale duizendpoot: hij verwisselt net zo makkelijk banjo voor gitaar, lapsteel voor mandoline en raakt menig blueshart als hij de mondharmonica bespeelt.
BEKENDE COUNTRY KLASSIEKERS, ONBEKENDE PARELTJES EN EIGEN WERK!
De muziek van Change of Key is een mengeling van diverse stijlen waarmee de drie leden zijn opgegroeid. Naast Country music zijn ook de invloeden van Americana, Blues, Singer/songwriter, Bluegrass etc verweven in hun repertoire!
AWARDS
Het trio is sinds 2007 niet meer weg te denken uit het Country Music circuit in Nederland. Zangeres Daniëlle is 3 x zangeres van het jaar geworden en kreeg 4 x een nominatie. Change of Key werd 5 x trio van het jaar en kreeg in de andere jaren ook de nodige nominaties. Ook de inzendingen voor song van het jaar stonden ze de afgelopen jaren bij de laatste 5. In 2015 werd Marijke, tot haar verrassing, opgenomen in de Dutch Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2018 hebben ze 4 nominaties in de wacht gesleept te weten: zangeres, trio, event en song of the year en op 17 november werd bekend dat Change of Key zich weer DCMA-trio van het jaar 2018 mag noemen. Jammer genoeg is de DCMA in 2019 gestopt.
DISCOGRAFIE
2007 Het eerste zilveren schijfje met louter eigen werk getiteld: ’Home is Where My Heart is’. In 2008 werd deze CD bekroond met de DCMA Award voor Album van het jaar.
2012 De opvolger werd een dubbelalbum: ‘When Music Calls My Name’ en ook dit werk mocht zich in 2013 DCMA Album van het jaar noemen.
2017 Twee Nederlandstalige singles worden gereleased in dit jaar : ’Vandaag ontsteek ik een lichtje’ speciaal gecomponeerd voor Wereldlichtjesdag, de tweede zondag in december, herdenkingsdag voor overleden kinderen. ’Zeilen op de Wind van Vandaag’, geschreven door Frank Mulder van Purper, is het lijflied van dit trio als ze programma’s verzorgen in Zorgcentra.
2018 De eigen song ‘Scarred for Life’ verscheen in dat jaar op single, een song over oorlogstrauma’s en Change of Key werd uitgenodigd om dit lied live te performen tijdens de Veteranen dag in 2019.
2018 De lang gekoesterde wens om een eigen Kerst-CD uit te brengen kwam uit. ‘Christmas Glee with Change of Key’ en naast een aantal kerst standards, staan er ook 4 eigen Kerst songs op dit album. Datzelfde jaar verschijnt ook hun 3e Nederlandstalige’ single: ‘Gewoon Speciaal’.’ met de boodschap de gewone dingen in het leven zijn eigenlijk heel speciaal! Dan volgt een periode die we allemaal liever vergeten (Covid) en waarin ook de inspiratie soms ver te zoeken was.
2024 Het bloed kroop waar het niet gaan kon en het volgende album: ‘Paper Doors into the Past’ ziet het daglicht in april van dit jaar. Met een mooie presentatie in Theater Concordia, samen met de Amerikaanse producer/fiddle/multi instrumentalist Tim Crouch, Tom Ensink op pedalsteel & dobro en sologitarist Eppo Franken, zag dit nieuwe project het levenslicht.
COUNTRY CAFÉ CONCORDIA
Sinds 2012 hebben ze hun eigen programma, Country Café Concordia, met minimaal 8 shows per jaar in hun Thuistheater Concordia in Haastrecht. Regelmatig worden er gastartiesten uitgenodigd en wordt er zo nu een dan een livestream op poten gezet. Ook voor het aankomende seizoen 25/26 staat de, inmiddels 13e, editie van dit geliefde evenement weer op de agenda. Houd hiervoor de website in de gaten. Kortom, het trio zit niet stil, Change of Key heeft nog steeds dezelfde passie en enthousiasme en liefde voor de muziek als toen het werd gestart. Terug naar de roots, geen beukende drums of gillende gitaren, de stemmen en harmonieën staan centraal in de muziek van Change of Key.

In 2001, the three members of Change of Key met at a benefit concert. They immediately clicked musically, and a permanent collaboration quickly developed. In the years that followed, they worked hard on the repertoire, and a great deal of attention was also paid to the instrumental composition.
COMPOSITION AND MUSICAL STYLE
In addition to her superb vocals, Daniëlle also handles the rhythm guitar, mandolin, and banjo parts. Marijke, a harmony singer par excellence, focuses on keyboards and guitar, and Joop is the musical jack-of-all-trades: he easily swaps banjo for guitar, lap steel for mandolin, and touches many a blues heart when he plays the harmonica.
WELL-KNOWN COUNTRY CLASSICS, UNKNOWN GEMS, AND OWN WORK!
The music of Change of Key is a blend of various styles with which the three members grew up. Besides country music, influences from Americana, blues, singer/songwriter, and bluegrass, etc., are also woven into their repertoire!
AWARDS
The trio has been a fixture on the Dutch country music scene since 2007. Singer Daniëlle has been named Female Vocalist of the Year three times and has received four nominations. Change of Key has been named Trio of the Year five times and has also received numerous nominations in other years. They have also been in the final five for Song of the Year in recent years. In 2015, Marijke was inducted, to her surprise, into the Dutch Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2018, they received four nominations: Female Vocalist, Trio, Event, and Song of the Year. On November 17th, it was announced that Change of Key was once again named DCMA Trio of the Year 2018. Unfortunately, the DCMA ceased operations in 2019.

2007 The first silver disc featuring only original work, titled "Home is Where My Heart Is." In 2008, this CD was awarded the DCMA Award for Album of the Year.
2012 The follow-up was a double album: "When Music Calls My Name," which was also named DCMA Album of the Year in 2013.
2017 Two Dutch-language singles were released this year: "Vandaag ontlicht ik een lichtje" (Today I Light a Light), composed especially for WereldLichtjesdag (World Candle Lighting Day), the second Sunday in December, the day of remembrance for deceased children. "Zeilen op de Wind van Vandaag" (Sailing on the Wind of Today), written by Frank Mulder of Purper, is the trio's theme song when they perform programs in care centers. 2018: Their own song "Scarred for Life" was released as a single that year, a song about war trauma. Change of Key was invited to perform it live during Veterans Day in 2019.
2018: Their long-cherished wish to release their own Christmas CD came true. "Christmas Glee with Change of Key" featured several Christmas standards and four original Christmas songs. That same year, their third Dutch-language single, "Gewoon Speciaal," was also released, with the message that the ordinary things in life are actually quite special! Then followed a period we'd all rather forget (COVID), and inspiration was sometimes hard to come by.
2024: Their blood was thicker than water, and their next album, "Paper Doors into the Past," was released in April of that year. With a beautiful presentation at Theater Concordia, together with American producer/fiddle/multi-instrumentalist Tim Crouch, Tom Ensink on pedal steel & dobro, and lead guitarist Eppo Franken, this new project was born.
